Sustainable Homer

Sustainable Homer is more a concept than an organization. There is a weekly newsletter with local activities in the Homer area on topics that support sustainability. Usually we think of sustainability topics such as alternative energy, growing your own food, responsibly taking care of waste through recycling and composting, carpooling and living simply so as to reduce our resource needs. But the fact is, you won't pay attention to any of those facets of environmental health if your physical, mental, emotional, spiritual or economic health is shot. So taking care of the planet also means taking care of ourselves. The weekly newsletter, therefore, includes activities that fit in those traditional themes of sustainability such as solar power, gardening, and traditional skill-building. But there are also tidbits about positive and inspiring local community activities that get you outside, connected to community, and informative ways to take care of your own health on all levels. The key is positivity. No terrifying actions alerts about dying polar bears, no politics or petitions to sign, this newsletter is focused simply on moving ourselves, our families, and our community in a positive direction.
